TROY, Alabama – Jamaal Smith has been named director of player development for the Troy football program, head coach Neal Brown announced Wednesday. Smith has served as Troy's director of football operations for the past 18 months after spending time as a graduate assistant and video coordinator for the Trojans.
Â
"Jamaal has meant a great deal to this football program over the years," Brown said. "He has a great relationship with our players, which is evident every time you see him interact with them, and with the many different departments across campus that help our program. Jamaal has gained great experience working in the different aspects of this football program, which makes him a valuable piece of our staff."
Â
Smith, who is currently in his ninth year working with the Troy football program, was a wide receiver for the Trojans from 2001-04. He returned to Troy as a graduate assistant in 2007 and worked with the Trojan wide receivers and running backs.
Â
"I've worked with Coach Brown before and I'm excited to be part of his vision for this football program," Smith said. "Troy is a very special place for me and I'm looking forward to working with our student-athletes to help them perform at the highest level."
Â
The Atlanta, Ga., native spent three years as the football video coordinator before taking over duties as the director of operations in Sept. 2013. Smith received his master's degree from Troy in sport management in 2009.
