Kiah Cheatham Earns Sun Belt Weekly Award

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – Troy volleyball's Kiah Cheatham was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Cheatham helped the Trojans to a 3-1 record at the Big Orange Bash, hosted by Clemson, last weekend. The Greenville, S.C., native was the top blocker for a Troy team that averaged a Sun Belt best 2.57 blocks/set during it's opening weekend.

The sophomore had 16 blocks in 15 sets for a 1.07 blocks/set average. She posted a career-high 8.0 blocks against USC Upstate as the Trojans posted 15.0 blocks as a team, tying the school's rally-scoring era record.

Cheatham posted 5.0 against Clemson on the same day as the Trojans posted 13.0 blocks against the Tigers. The Trojans lone loss of the weekend came against the Tigers in a close four-set match. Cheatham also posted 25 kills on the weekend and recorded a .298 attack percentage.

The award is the second weekly award of Cheatham's career. She was named the Sun Belt Freshman of the Week last season.

Cheatham and the Trojans return to the court on Thursday when they open the Trojan Invitational against Mercer at 7 p.m. Alabama A&M and Jacksonville State will also visit for the two-day event.
