Full Pads & Heat Welcome Troy Football at Practice on Monday

TROY, Ala. – The Troy football team strapped on full pads for the first time of fall camp in a three-hour workout in the Monday morning heat on the practice fields behind Veterans Memorial Stadium.

"First day in full gear and we had some full speed tackling and contact work," head coach Larry Blakeney said. "It looked good but when we watch the film we'll probably find some things both good and bad. I still think that we have a bunch of good kids and the new group is really trying to press on and do the right things. If we can keep working together, and the older guys can continue to exert themselves in leadership roles, I think we have a chance of being a pretty good football team."

In addition to the normal position and team drills, the Trojans continued to emphasize special teams.

"The kicking game will be paramount and we are working very hard on it," Blakeney said. "Hopefully we'll be good enough to help our offense and defense field position wise. I like this group. They have done well and if they'll continue to resist the drama of doing something they don't need to do we'll be in good shape."

The Trojans with have a pair of practices on Tuesday, as they will go through a normal workout beginning at 8:30 a.m. before returning for an evening session beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday marks the first scrimmage of fall camp for the Trojans. The scrimmage will begin around 10 a.m. in Veterans Memorial Stadium and is open to the public.

Troy opens the 2014 season at in-state rival UAB on August 30 at Legion Field. Kickoff between the Trojans and Blazers is set for 11 a.m. and the game will be televised live on Fox College Sports.

Season tickets for Troy's six home games are available and can be purchased by calling the Troy ticket office at 1-877-878-WINS, by logging on to TroyTrojans.com or by visiting the Tine Davis Fieldhouse. Single-game tickets are also available.
