Football Returns Following First Off Day of Camp

TROY, Ala. – The Troy football team earned a well deserved off day Sunday following the team's first scrimmage of fall camp Saturday. However, the Trojans were back on the practice fields behind Veterans Memorial Stadium Monday morning for a three-hour workout.

"I think that we're moving in a positive direction, learning who is who and what is what," head coach Larry Blakeney said. "We've made some demotions and promotions after the scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Hopefully it's a motivating thing and hopefully it encourages and enhances competition, because that's what we are hunting and it will make us get better.

"We are still moving towards trying to settle on people at all positions and that includes quarterback," Blakeney said. "We're always going to play a lot of people; we're just trying to find out who can do it right now."

Troy's final practice before school starts will take place Tuesday at 6 a.m. as classes resume on Wednesday.

Fan Day and Football Appreciation Night are the next major events on the preseason docket, as they will both take place on Saturday, Aug. 16. Fan Day is scheduled for 1-3 p.m. in Trojan Arena following the second scrimmage of camp, which is slated to begin at 10 a.m. For more information on Football Appreciation Night, contact Hannah Mason at 334-670-3683.

Troy opens the 2014 season at in-state rival UAB on August 30 at Legion Field. Kickoff between the Trojans and Blazers is set for 11 a.m. and the game will be televised live on Fox College Sports.
