TROY, Alabama – The Troy Trojans football squad held its second practice of fall camp, completing another 28-sessions on the practice fields adjacent to Veterans Memorial Stadium on a beautiful Friday morning.
Â
"The second day, the reps build up and the guys have a better idea of what they're doing on every play," said safeties coach Dustin Landry. "Our offense goes fast and the bullets are flying fast, especially for some of the newer guys. The second day was good, and so was the first, but each day we strive to get better and better, day in and day out."
Â
During the three-hour session, the coaches worked the student-athletes through individual drills and ended with skeleton drills to wrap up the morning.
Â
"There's some soreness," said wide receiver B.J. Chitty. "It's the first day and everyone is getting back into the swing of things. Hopefully we can bounce back tomorrow, we go to shells tomorrow, and everyone's legs are back after squats. Day two, we ran all the plays we ran yesterday, and added about five or six more today."
Â
The Trojans are slated to practice again on Sat., August 2, at 8:30 a.m., in helmets and shoulder pads for the first time during fall camp. Then, on Mon., August 4, Troy will hit the practice field in full pads. All of Troy's practices are open to the public.
Â
"It's definitely a blessing," said cornerback Ethan Davis. "It's a process. All of the time we continue to get better, as the day and practice goes on. We watch film, and get more mental reps and then out on the field getting the physical reps. It's a blessing to be out here."
Â
Troy opens the 2014 season on August 30 against UAB at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala. The game will be broadcast live on Fox College Sports and kick off is set for 11 a.m. Troy then returns home on September 6 to face Duke at 6 p.m. game on ESPN3.
