Â
TROY, Ala. – Troy Athletics Director John Hartwell announced Friday the promotion of four members of the Athletics Department administrative staff while welcoming back another member of his team.
Â
Sandy Atkins was elevated to Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Relations in addition to her role as the Senior Woman Administrator. Tony Ferrante was promoted to Associate Director of Athletics for Operations and Facilities, while Kit Alewine was named Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance and Adam Prendergast was named Assistant Director of Athletics for Media Relations.
Â
Mike Frigge will rejoin the Troy staff as Assistant Director of Athletics for Operations after leaving briefly for a position at the University of Cincinnati. Additionally, Troy's vacant position in Academic Services has been elevated to Assistant Director of Athletics for Academic Services and a search fill that role is underway.
Â
"A successful athletics department is contingent on a number of moving parts working together with the same goal in mind," Hartwell said. "Our administrative team has an outstanding working relationship with each other and a lot of what these individuals accomplish is behind the scenes with very little fanfare. "
Â
A standout softball student-athlete at Troy, Atkins returned to her alma mater in 2001 as the Director of Compliance and quickly moved up the administrative ladder. She was promoted to SWA in 2004 and to Associate Director of Athletics in 2007.
Â
A native of Sweet Water, Ala., Atkins graduated from Troy in 1995 with a bachelor's degree in marketing and from Kentucky in 1999 with a master's degree in sports administration. Atkins spent two years as the Assistant Director of Compliance at the Southeastern Conference between her time at Kentucky and Troy.
Â
Ferrante joined the Troy staff in 1998 after graduating from Cincinnati with a degree in history. The Cleveland, Ohio, native began his career with the Trojans as the Facilities and Equipment Manager before a promotion to Director of Operations in 2004 and to Assistant Director of Athletics in 2007.
Â
Ferrante currently oversees operations in the equipment and video rooms, directs event management and serves as the facility coordinator for all athletic department venues. Â
Â
Alewine was named Troy's Director of Compliance in 2007 after two years at Francis Marion where he was the Compliance Coordinator before a promotion to Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Academic Support. A native of Lodge, S.C., Alewine currently serves on the Alabama Athlete Agent Commission and the NCAA Division I Progress Toward Degree Waivers Committee.
Â
The Chair of the NCAA Compliance Committee, Alewine received a bachelor's degree in biology and psychology from Coker College in 2002 and his master's degree in psychology from Capella University in 2005.
Â
Prendergast took over as the Director of Athletic Media Relations in 2012 after four and a half years at the University of Louisiana at Monroe in a similar role. A native of State College, Pa., Prendergast graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor's degree in mass communications in 2003.
Â
He spent time at Samford University, Spring Hill College and Campbell University before heading to ULM. Prendergast currently serves as the Chair of the Sun Belt Conference Sports Information Directors.
Â
Frigge began his first stint at Troy in 2006 as the video coordinator and served in that role until 2011 when he was elevated to Director of Event Management and Promotions. The Springfield, Ohio, native joined the Troy staff after a brief stop at Cincinnati as the Director of Video and Photo.
Â
The Springfield, Ohio, native has played a vital role in Troy's significant audio and video upgrades across its athletic facilities. Frigge received his bachelor's degree in communications from Cincinnati in 2006 and was immediately named the Director of Video and Photo for the Bearcats.Â
