MONROE, La. – The Troy softball team (16-24-2, 1-8 SBC) dropped a pair of games at ULM (17-14, 3-5 SBC) in extra innings on Saturday. Troy fell in game one, 1-0, in nine innings and in game two, 4-3, in eight innings.

Troy got out to a hot start in game two, taking a 2-0 lead early. The Trojans also scored first in extra innings, plating one in the top of the eighth. The Trojans had 11 hits in the game, tying the second best total of the season for the team.

ULM's Vanessa Garcia was the hero for the Warhawks, providing the walk-off hit in both games.

The Trojans wrap up the series with the Warhawks on Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.

Troy 0, ULM 1 (9 inn.) (Game 1)

It was a pitcher's duel in game one, but the Warhawks took the win on a walk-off home run by Garcia in the ninth.

Jaycee Affeldt got the start and pitched well for the Trojans, allowing just three hits over eight-plus innings. She struck out five on the day.

ULM's Samantha Hamby was equally impressive, allowing two hits in nine innings of work.

Troy's best chance came in the fifth inning. Affeldt got hit by a pitch and was replaced by Bria Epps. After Epps stole second, Alison Milam roped a single to center field, but Epps was tagged out at the plate.

Troy 3, ULM 4 (8 inn.) (Game 2)

The Trojans wasted no time getting on the board in game two, picking up a pair of runs in the first. Milam and Ebony Wright hit back-to-back singles to get things started. Milam would then score after a pair of wild pitches. Rigney then came home on a single by Rachel Rigney.

The Warhawks would narrow the lead in the second, with Vanessa Garcia coming home on a bloop single by Mackenzie Miller. ULM would then level the score in the third.

Troy loaded the bases in the fifth with no outs, but couldn't get any across the plate.

Amanda Winters led off the eighth with a single through the right side, followed by an infield, bunt single by Taylor Smartt. Next up, Kacie McAllister picked up a bunt single, loading the bases. Michelle Phelps then came in to pinch-hit, driving in Winters with a single.

Alexis Cacioppo led off the bottom of the eighth with a home run to left field, tying the score. After a Warhawk single, Garcia came up big again with a single through the right side to give ULM the 4-3 win.

Ashley Rainey was solid in the circle for the Trojans, allowing just two runs in seven innings. Sara Mock took the loss, after failing to record an out and allowing two runs in the eighth.
