Trojans Drop Opener, Take Game 2 at UT Arlington

ARLINGTON, Texas – After falling in game one, Troy (18-25-2, 2-9 SBC) bounced back to take game two against UT Arlington (17-24, 2-9 SBC) at Allen Saxe Field. UTA took game one, 2-1, while the Trojans won game two, 5-4.

Ashley Rainey was tremendous for the Trojans, pitching nine total innings over the two games. Rainey struck out nine and allowed just seven hits, while giving up just two earned runs, on the day.

The rubber match for the series is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Sunday morning.

Troy 1, UT Arlington 2 (Game 1)

UTA got on the board first, plating two in the bottom of the third on a single by Rebecca Stokes.

The Trojans cut the lead to 2-1 in the fifth, with Alison Milam crushing her second home run of the season to left-center.

The game ended with a controversial call at second, as Leah Brundidge appeared to have taken the base but was called out on the play.

Jaycee Affeldt took the loss after allowing three hits and two runs over four innings. Ashley Rainey came in in relief, striking out two and not allowing a hit over two innings of work.

Troy 5, UT Arlington 4 (Game 2)

Rainey was solid again in game two, striking out seven in the complete game effort. Rainey also helped her cause on the offensive end, going 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI.

The Trojans struck first in the second game, picking up three in the inning. Rainey led off with a single and was then pinch-ran for by Bria Epps. Epps would then steal second and advance to third, before coming home on a bunt single by Kacie McAllister. Becca Hartley picked up a single, and then both Hartley and McAllister advanced on a wild pitch. Both then came home on a single by Ebony Wright.

UT Arlington picked up one in the third on an RBI double by Stokes.

Troy plated two more in the fifth, with Chandler Griffin picking up a two-RBI single up the middle.

The Mavericks would score three in the bottom of the seventh, but Rainey held on to take her sixth win of the season.
