STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. – Led by Brooke Spinks and Fátima Fernández Cano, the Troy women's golf team turned in a third-place finish at the Lady Panther Intercollegiate, which wrapped up play Tuesday at the Eagle's Landing Country Club.
The Trojans shot a 313 in Tuesday's final round and beat several teams ahead of them in the rankings – Mercer, Middle Tennessee, Old Dominion and Kennesaw State. Additionally, Troy finished 34 shots ahead of Sun Belt foe UALR and 51 shots ahead of in-state and league rival South Alabama.
Spinks and Cano tied for 12th place after finishing the tournament at 8-over par. Cano carded three birdies on the day and shot 4-over while Spinks sank four birdies and finished 6-over.
Campbell rallied past host Georgia State to claim the team title by 17 strokes, the Camels shot 2-under on Tuesday while the next closest round was Mercer's 6-over. Georgia's Amira Alexander claimed individual medalist honors after sinking a birdie on the first playoff hole.
Becca Horner tied for 24th overall as she carded a 7-over during the final round, while Langley Vannoy tied for 42nd and Taylor McGraw finished in a tie for 52nd place.
The Trojans head to the star-studded Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga., which opens play on Friday. The 16-team field includes No. 1 Southern California, No. 4 Arkansas, No. 7 Alabama, No. 17 Northwestern, No. 22 Michigan State, No. 23 North Carolina State, No. 24 Iowa State, No. 28 Auburn, No. 30 Texas A&M, No. 35 Mississippi State and No. 50 Georgia.
