STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. – Led by a 3-under from Brooke Spinks, the Troy women's golf team fired its second-best round of the season Monday at the Eagle's Landing Country Club in the Lady Panther Intercollegiate. The Trojans shot a 1-over 289 as a team and are just five shots back of the lead in third place.
Spinks jumped 16 spots into a tie for sixth place following her career-best round of 69 on Monday, which is also tied for the lowest round by a Trojan this season. She carded three birdies, an eagle and just two bogeys during her round.
The Trojans' 289 as a team was just two shots back of the school-record (Division I) round they carded during the final round of the Fred Marx Invitational back in September. Georgia State leads the 16-team field and holds a two-shot advantage over Campbell. Campbell's Kaylin Yost shot a 5-under in the second round and has a one shot among individuals.
Taylor McGraw rebounded from a tough opening round as she shaved 10 strokes off her Sunday score with a 1-over 73 on Monday. After a double-bogey on No. 3, McGraw birdied No. 9 and shot par on the other 16 holes and finished the day tied for 39th overall.
Becca Horner moved into a tie for 19th place after shooting a 73 with a pair of birdies during the second round, while Fátima Fernández Cano is tied for 12th after shooting a 74 for the second straight day. Langley Vannoy finished 8-over on the day and is tied for 36th place.
The Trojans will tee off at 8 a.m. on the first three holes Tuesday for the final round of the Lady Panther Intercollegiate.
