AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Fátima Fernández Cano turned in the fourth top 10 finish of her freshman season against a star-studded field at the 3M Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate. Cano finished in a tie for sixth place and Troy tied for eighth against a field that included five teams ranked in the top 50.
The Trojans combined to shoot a 610 over Saturday's 36 holes at the Forest Hills Golf Club that yielded high scores all weekend; the average round was a 78.9. Troy finished just four shots back of No. 34 GRU Augusta and two shots back of No. 48 Illinois; the Trojans tied with No. 61 Purdue and finished in front of three teams who were ahead of them in the national rankings.
Cano improved from round-to-round and shot a 75 in the second round before closing her day with a 73 thanks to a birdie and just two bogeys. Her second round featured a pair of birdies and an eagle on the par-5, 533-yard No. 17.
Taylor McGraw continued her solid spring with a pair of 75s on Saturday to finish in a tie for 17th place. McGraw, who sank four birdies over her final 36 holes, has a pair of top-10 finishes and now a top-20 finish in Troy's three spring tournaments.
Langley Vannoy tied for 36th place after shooting a 159 on Saturday, while Brooke Spinks tied for 58th place and Sydney Conrad tied for 61st place.
No. 14 Vanderbilt won the team title by 10 strokes over Mercer, while No. 41 Kansas finished in third, No. 46 East Tennessee State in fourth and Campbell in fifth.
The Trojans will take one week off before heading to Stockbridge, Ga., for the Lady Panther Invitational.
