Cano Leads Women’s Golf on Opening Day of Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate

AUGUSTA, Ga. – On a day when scores were high across the board, Fátima Fernández Cano carded a pair of birdies and sits in a tie for eighth following the opening day of the 3M Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate at the Forest Hills Golf Club; Troy is in ninth place as a team, but are just four strokes out of fifth.
Cano, who shot a 4-over 76, recorded birdies on No. 5 and No. 7 and played the remainder of her round without a double or triple bogey when those were the norm across the course. The Trojan freshman finds herself just three strokes behind leaders Lacey Fears (Mercer) and Samantha Postillion (Illinois).
After missing last week's tournament with a minor injury, Langley Vannoy was strong in her return as she carded a 5-over 77 with four birdies. Vannoy is tied for 12th place while Taylor McGraw is tied for 20th place after shooting a 79. Brooke Spinks (88) and Sydney Conrad (89) rounded out the field for the Trojans.
No. 14 Vanderbilt (299) leads No. 46 East Tennessee State (309) by 10 strokes while No. 48 Illinois (311), Mercer (312) and No. 41 Kansas (316) round out the top five.
The Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate will conclude with 36 holes on Saturday after the threat of inclement weather in the Augusta area on Sunday forced officials to bump the final round up a day.
