Troy Baseball Receiving Votes in NCBWA Poll

TROY, Ala. - The Troy University baseball team received votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Division I preseason poll, which was released on Monday. Troy also received votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll and the Collegiate Baseball Poll.

The Trojans are coming off a 42-20 campaign last season and finished the year ranked as high as No. 23. Sun Belt Conference rival Louisiana-Lafayette is ranked No. 24 in the recently released poll and South Alabama also received votes.

The poll voters come from 44 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation. After a preseason Top 35 listing, the remainder of the polls will feature a national Top 30 beginning with the Feb. 17 NCBWA DI survey.

The defending Sun Belt Conference regular season co-champions return 19 lettermen including 2013 Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year Shane McCain, who went 9-1 with a 3.48 ERA in 16 starts. All-Sun Belt shortstop Tyler Vaughn also returns to lead the Trojans offense.

Troy will open the 2014 season at Riddle-Pace Field with a four game series against Northern Kentucky on Feb. 14-16.
