Troy Baseball Set for Tough Road Test Against Southern Miss

TROY, Ala. – The Troy University baseball team will look to extend its three-game win streak as it travels to Hattiesburg, Miss., to face the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in a three-game series set to begin on Friday at 6 p.m. The series will continue on Saturday with a 2 p.m. first pitch then conclude with a 1 p.m. finale on Sunday.

The games on Friday and Sunday can be heard on WTBF 94.7 FM while Saturday's game will be broadcast on 970 AM. Live stats and audio will be available on TroyTrojans.com.

Troy (6-3) defeated Florida A&M, 7-6, on Tuesday. The Trojans opened strong with five runs in the first inning including a three-run home run from Trevin Hall. Troy has hit a home run in seven of nine games to open the season.

Southern Miss (4-5) is coming off a pair of mid-week wins over Alcorn State and Alabama. The Golden Eagles knocked of Alcorn State 8-4 on Tuesday then defeated Alabama 2-1 on Wednesday day, both at home.

David Hall leads Troy at the plate with an on-base percentage of .575 after drawing 11 walks already this season. Trevin Hall heads the team with 12 hits and 26 total bases while Garrett Pitts has knocked in a team-high nine runs.

On the mound for the Trojans in Game 1 will be right-hander Tanner Hicks (1-1, 2.57), who tossed seven strong innings against Central Michigan last week. Southpaw Shane McCain (1-1, 2.25) will take the ball on Saturday before RHP Will Starling (1-0, 5.00) will likely get the nod in Sunday's finale.

Southern Miss will send a pair of strong arms to the mound to face the Trojans. Right-hander Coner Fisk (0-0, 3.00) will be Friday's starter and RHP Cameron Giannini (0-0, 0.77) is slated to pitch on Saturday. The Golden Eagles have yet to determine a Sunday starter.

As a team, Southern Miss is batting .256 and has a team ERA of 4.12. Troy will look to take advantage of the Golden Eagles on the base paths. The Trojans have swiped 17 bags while USM has allowed 21 stolen bases.
