Cano Tied for Individual Lead & Troy Women’s Golf in Striking Distance of Title at USA Women’s Invitational

MOBILE, Ala. – Freshman Fátima Fernández Cano is tied for the individual lead and the Troy women's golf team is just four shots off the lead in fourth place following the opening two round of the USA Women's Invitational held Monday at the Azalea City Golf Course.
Cano shot matching 1-over-par 73s in both of Monday's rounds with a birdie and two bogies in the opening round and one bogie in the second round. The true freshman is tied with Memphis' Leighann Cabush, who also shot a 73 in each round.
The Trojans held the lead following the opening round after carding a 298 as a team; however they struggled as they day went on and finished the second round with a 309 as a collective unit. Jacksonville State holds the team lead with a 603 followed by Memphis (604), Samford (606) and Troy (607).
Taylor McGraw matched Cano's second round score as she sank a pair of birdies around three bogeys to finish 1-over for the round. McGraw is in the hunt for a top finish, as she will enter Tuesday's final round tied for sixth place.
Playing as an individual, Sydney Conrad had the third best day by a Trojan golfer as she sits in a tie for 18th place after shooting a 79-74—153. Langley Vannoy (T28), Becca Horner (T33) and Brooke Spinks (T53) rounded out the field for the Trojans. Horner provided some excited when she carded an eagle on the par-5 No. 2 during the opening round.
Troy will begin Tuesday's final round on the fourth, fifth and sixth holes, as the field will play a shotgun start for the final 18 holes.
