TROY, Ala. - Troy men's hoops fell to Arkansas State on Saturday night, 83-73, inside Trojan Arena. The Red Wolves did their damage from deep and closed out the game from the charity stripe.

"I thought we came out ready to play; we played well early," said head coach Phil Cunningham. "They spread us out and did a good job defending. We've got to do a better job shooting free throws, but I thought we were physical especially in the rebounding category."

The Red Wolves took an eight-point lead into the break and maintained throughout the second half. Troy cut the lead in the final minutes but Arkansas State drained the majority of its free throw attempts to secure the win.

Tevin Calhoun and Kevin Thomas each recorded 16 points on the night, while Antoine Myers picked up a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Jeff Mullahey also finished in double-figures with 10 points.

Troy outrebounded Arkansas State 36-32 on the night. The Trojans shot 46.6 percent (27-of-58) from the field and 25.9 percent (7-of-27) from beyond the arc. Troy struggled from the free throw line, hitting 12-of-21 (57.1 %) attempts.

The Trojans got out to a hot start, including a pair of emphatic alley-oops by Calhoun and Thomas off of feeds by Williams. Troy would cool down slightly heading into the break and trail 44-36 at the half.

Next up for the Trojans is a meeting with in-state rival South Alabama. The Jaguars come to town on Thursday, February 6, at 7:30 p.m.
