Trojans Finish Non-Conference Play Sunday

THIBODAUX, Louisiana – The Troy men's basketball team faces its final non-conference opponent as it searches for the program's 1,000th win when it travels to Stopher Gym to face Nicholls State on Sunday. Tip off between the Trojans and Colonels is slated for 3:30 p.m.

The Trojans (4-4) are coming off a loss at Austin Peay, 73-70. Troy has lost its last two road games by a combined five points. In their last game, the Trojans fought back from a 16-point deficit in the second-half, but Austin Peay was able to withstand the Trojans' pressure.

Kelton Ford came off the bench to spark the Trojans' comeback on his way to a game-high 15 points. Kevin Thomas earned his fourth double-double of the season, eighth of his career, as he accounted for 14 points and 11 rebounds. Musa Abdul-Aleem, who scored the first eight Trojan points, also paced the Trojans with 15 points, while reeling in a career-high eight boards. Welsey Person added 10 points for the Trojans, the seventh game in double figures of his freshman season.

Kevin Thomas enters the game shooting 67.2 percent from the floor, which ranks fourth best in the NCAA and second in the Sun Belt. The Ajax, Ontario, native is also the Sun Belt's leading rebounder, averaging 8.4 rebounds per contest. He currently ranks ninth in the nation, averaging 4.1 offensive boards per contest.

Nicholls State (2-6) is coming off a loss on the road to Louisiana Tech, 79-54. In its loss, T.J. Carpenter led Nicholls offensively with 17 points and added 10 rebounds. Sam McBeath earned his third double-double in the last four games, posting 12 points and 11 rebounds on the night.

Tomorrow's matchup marks the fifth game between the Trojans and Colonels. Nicholls State owns a 10-4 advantage, however, last year Troy defeated Nicholls State at home, 77-62. Kevin Thomas tallied eight points and nine boards against the Colonels. Kelton Ford also added three in the victory.
