Trojans Head to Dothan Civic Center Thursday

TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's basketball squad is heading to Dothan, Ala., on Thursday as it faces Fort Valley State at the Dothan Civic Center. Tip off between the Trojans and Wildcats is set for 7 p.m.

The Trojans (3-3) are coming off of back-to-back wins at home against Alcorn State and Central Arkansas. In both of Troy's wins, senior forward Kevin Thomas posted double-doubles, which marks the second time in his career he has had two-straight double-double outings. Those performances earned him his first ever Sun Belt Player of the Week honor. Â

Thomas is currently averaging 4.5 offensive rebounds per game, which ranks him seventh in the nation and first in the Sun Belt. He is also shooting 66 percent from the field, which ranks eighth in the country and second amongst Sun Belt players.

Freshman Wesley Person has tallied double-figures in all six games this season for the Trojans, the most consecutive double-figure scoring games for a Trojan since Hunter Williams had seven straight last season. Person is averaging 16.0 points per game, which ranks seventh in the Sun Belt overall and eighth among all freshman in the nation.

Person is no stranger to the Dothan Civic Center. In his four high school games there, Person scored 138 points, averaging 34.5 points per contest.

Fort Valley State (0-7) has had a tough start to the 2014-15 season. In the Wildcats' last outing, they lost at Columbus State, 75-95. In the loss, Tyrone Brison, who is Fort Valley State's leading scorer, shot 4-of-5 from beyond the arc as he paced the Wildcats with 21 points. Â

Last season head coach Sammy Jackson's team posted the best record in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) with an overall record of 21-9 and 15-3 SIAC record. His team finished first in the Eastern Division of the SIAC and runner-up in the SIAC Tournament. Jackson was named SIAC Coach of the Year and All-State Coach of the Year by the Georgia Basketball Coaches Association.
