Troy Falls at Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Troy volleyball team traveled to second place Texas State on Saturday and fell to the Bobcats, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-19), at Strahan Coliseum.

Troy (9-21, 1-17) was led offensively by Symone Shaw who recorded a team-high 10 kills. Darby Griff hit a Troy best .263 with nine kills and four errors on 19 attempts. The Trojans hit .083 as a team on the night while Texas State hit .364.

The Bobcats took control from the very beginning as they took a 6-0 lead in the first set, thanks in large part to five Troy attack errors. The Trojans went on to hit .000 in the first set as Texas State won, 25-17.

Texas State (19-11, 14-4) hit a match-high .394 in the second set on its way to another 25-17 win. The third set was the tightest as Texas State led 20-19, but the Bobcats scored five straight to take the 25-19 win.

Defensively, Ali Dowdall led the Trojans with 13 digs. Troy had just 2.0 total team blocks while Texas State recorded 11.0 blocks as a team. Brooke Smith led the way with six blocks, she also hit .583 with eight kills and one error on 12 attempts. Jordan Kohl led the Bobcats with 10 kills.

The win was the 800th of Texas State head coach Karen Chisum's career. It was also the fifth win in six matches for the Bobcats while the loss was the 17th straight for Troy.

Troy returns to the court on Friday when it travels to Georgia State. Following that game, the Trojans will close their season at South Alabama on Saturday.
