Trojans Fall at Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Arkansas – The Troy volleyball team started its weekend road trip with a three-set loss at Arkansas State, 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-21), on Friday night at the Convocation Center.

Troy (9-17, 1-13) couldn't snap its losing streak, now at 13 matches, as the Red Wolves completed the season sweep of the Trojans. Darby Griff was a bright spot on the night for Troy as the junior middle hitter posted 11 kills and no errors on 16 attempts for a .688 attack percentage.

However, no other Trojans hit over .200 as the Trojans hit just .165 as a team. Arkansas State (14-8, 9-4) hit .364 as a team, including hitting over .400 in the first two sets.Â

The first set was close early and featured eight ties, including as late as 16-16. However, the Red Wolves scored nine of the final 12 points on their way to a 25-19 win. Arkansas State jumped out to a 5-1 lead early in the second set and Troy hit a match-low .088 as the Red Wolves went on to a 25-16 win.

In the final set, a five-point run was the difference as Arkansas State turned a 14-12 lead into a 19-12 lead on its way to a 25-21 win.

Ali Dowdall had a team-high 14 digs for Troy while Blair Winston tied a career high with 13 digs. The Trojans, who average over 2.00 blocks/set, has just two in the entire match on Friday.

Arkansas State was led offensively by 10 kills from both Jessica Uke and Drew Jones. Markie Schaedig posted a match-high 21 digs.

Troy returns to the floor on Saturday when it travels to take on Sun Belt leader UALR. First serve at the Jack Stephens Center in set for 7:30 p.m.
