10/30/2014 9:43:00 AM | Football
STATESBORO, Georgia – The eyes of the nation will be on the Trojans for the second straight week as Troy travels to Georgia Southern for a Sun Belt Conference clash on ESPNU Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.
The game will be broadcast live on the Troy Sports Radio Network beginning with the pregame show at 4:30 p.m. The broadcast will be aired live for free on TroyTrojans.com and throughout the Southeast on Troy's 16-station radio network.
It will be the 14th meeting between the two schools but first since Georgia Southern knocked then No. 1 ranked Troy out of the FCS Playoffs in 1995 with a late interception inside the 10-yard line. The series dates back to 1934 but has only been played three times during Troy head coach Larry Blakeney's 24-year career.
Troy (1-7, 1-3 Sun Belt) is looking to bounce back after a tough 27-13 loss at South Alabama last Friday night. The Trojans held the Jaguars to just 106 yards through the air, but South Alabama was able to rush for 296 yards and a couple of scores. This will be the third game in last 13 days for Troy.
The Trojans will need a big night from their quarterback Brandon Silvers. The redshirt freshman has completed 66.8 percent of his passes this season with only three interceptions. Georgia Southern enters the game second to last in the Sun Belt having allowed 263.1 yards per game through the air.
Georgia Southern (6-2, 5-0) brings the nation's top rushing attack into Thursday night's game as the Eagles are averaging 400.4 yards per game on the ground and 7.4 yards per carry. Georgia Southern's 40 rushing touchdowns are 12 more than anyone else in the country.
The Eagles have won five straight games entering Thursday's game and have won those games by an average of 22.2 points. The closest game in that stretch was a 36-28 victory at New Mexico State; Troy defeated New Mexico State 41-24 the following week.
Safety Montres Kitchens leads the Trojans with 56 tackles this season while defensive end Jamal Stadom leads Troy's defensive line with 40 tackles on the year.
