Women’s Golf Moves Up on Day Two of Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational

WEST POINT, Mississippi – Troy turned in the fifth best score of the day and moved up a spot to seventh on the leaderboard following Tuesday's second round of the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational at the Old Waverly Golf Club.
The Trojans shot a 6-over 294 as a team (eight shots better than their opening round) thanks to an even par round from Becca Horner, a 1-over round from Fátima Fernández Cano, a round of 2-over from Langley Vannoy and a 3-over round from Taylor McGraw.
Troy once again played well on the par 5s as the Trojans lead the field with a tally of 8-under for the tournament on the long distance holes. The Trojans have the fifth most birdies in the tournament with 27, while Mississippi State leads with 38. The No. 2 Bulldogs also lead the tournament by 22 shots over Memphis and FIU.
Horner sits tied for 12th heading into Wednesday's final round and is just four shots back of a top-five finish. A birdie on No. 15 and bogey on No. 16 put her at even as she made the turn. Following a bogey on No. 5, Horner birdied back-to-back holes to move to 1-under. She closed out with a bogey on No. 18 and tied her career low round with a 72.
Cano, who is tied for 32nd, sank back-to-back birdies on No. 14 and No. 15 around a pair of bogeys and made the turn at even par. She closed out her round with a birdie on No. 9 to clean up a pair of bogeys earlier on the front nine for her 1-over 73.
Vannoy continued her strong fall as she dropped in three birdies over her round and currently sits in a tie for 18th place. She finished with a 2-over 74 after a bogey and pair of double-bogeys and finds herself just three shots out of a top-10 finish.
McGraw will enter the final round tied for 44th place after shaving four strokes over her opening round score thanks to a trio of birdies during her round Tuesday. Sydney Conrad also had a big turnaround as she improved by four shots (77) to move into a tie for 59th. Competing as an individual, Brooke Spinks is tied for 69th after shooting an 83 Tuesday.
Troy enters Wednesday's final round just seven shots back of Samford for sixth place; the Trojans were four shots better than the Bulldogs on Tuesday. The Trojans will tee off at 8:30 a.m. on the back nine along with Iowa and South Alabama.
