Dowdall Earns Weekly Sun Belt Award

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – Troy volleyball's Ali Dowdall was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Dowdall averaged 7.75 digs/set last week as Troy dropped four-set matches to UALR and UT Arlington. The junior libero recorded 29 digs against the Trojans on Friday, and then posted 33 digs against the Mavericks on Sunday.

The Davison, Mich., native has now posted 30-plus digs in three matches this season. She has recorded double-digit digs in all 12 of Troy's Sun Belt matches this season, including 20-plus in seven of the 12.

Dowdall is averaging 4.80 digs/set overall this season and 5.75 digs/set in Sun Belt play, the second best mark in the conference. Her 4.80 digs/set average would be the second best in a single season in Troy's history. Also, her 456 digs this season are already the fifth most in a single season, with at least eight matches still to play.

The weekly award is the second of the season for Dowdall. It is the third of the season for Troy after Kiah Cheatham was named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week on September 1.

Dowdall and the Trojans return to the court this weekend when they host Georgia State on Saturday at 7 p.m.
