TROY, Alabama – The Troy University baseball team completed a successful exhibition game against the premier travel squad Ontario Blue Jays on Sunday at Riddle-Pace Field.
Â
Coaches were able to see several key returning players as well as a host of new faces as the Trojans looked to prove themselves in the waning weeks of fall practice.
Â
"We always appreciate the Ontario program including our program on their fall tour as it gives our team a solid game experience in October," head coach Bobby Pierce said.
Â
"Our players handled the day very well and while we made some mistakes, I thought their intent was right and their overall work was positive. Our focus now shifts to finishing the team phase of our fall the right way. I am pleased at this stage of the year and look forward to the progress we will make these last couple of weeks."
Â
Junior Logan Hill paced the Troy offence with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Bert Givens also turned in a pair of hits including a two-RBI double. Cameron Sanders was solid defensively cutting down two Blue Jays runners from the outfield; he also scored twice.
Â
On the mound, 2014 Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year Marc Skinner tossed two innings of relief striking out one. Tucker Simpson fanned four in three innings of work while Grant Bennett also struck four in four innings.
Â
Brody Binder and Marcus Sigmon collected two hits and an RBI each, while Tripp Calhoun chipped in with a two-RBI double.
Â
The Ontario Blue Jays are a high-level summer baseball program that competes in the Premier Baseball League of Ontario (PBLO).
Â
Troy opens the 2015 regular season on Feb. 13-15 with a four-game series against Northwestern State at Riddle-Pace Field.
