Meet the Trojans - Erica Davis | Facility Upgrade
TROY, Ala. – With the 2013 Troy softball season fast approaching, TroyTrojans.com will introduce you to a newcomer from the squad every week, leading up to the season opener in February.
Savannah Thomas played four years of softball at Southside High School in Southside, Ala., prior to joining the Trojans. There, she helped her Panthers advance to the state tournament her senior season with a record of 37-15-1, earning honorable mention 5A all-state honors along the way. She enjoyed a solid senior season at the plate, hitting .376 with an on-base percentage of .421 and a slugging percentage of .459. A multi-sport athlete, Thomas also played basketball in high school, earning all-county and all-area honors in 2013.
1. Why did you choose Troy to continue your education and softball?
"I chose Troy because it felt like tone big family. Everyone is so close, my team is my second family."
2. How has the transition been from high school to Troy?
"The transition between high school and college has been one of independence. Thank goodness for my coaches and teammates, they have been my rock during this time!"
3. What is the main thing that you have learned during this fall season?
"The main thing that I have learned during the fall season is that everyone has their ups and downs, but your teammates will always be there to pick you up!"
4. Softball is about to get a new facility. How is that going to impact the team?
"I believe having this facility will give us an advantage over our competition. We will be able to improve our skills in any type of weather. I feel beyond blessed to be getting to be a part of such an amazing facility."
5. What are your goals for the season?
"My personal goal for this season is to give all I have everyday in whatever role my coaches need me."
6. When you finish college, what would you like to do?
"I have recently decided that I want to become a physical therapist after I finish college. I also hope in some way to stay involved in the game of softball."
7. In one word, describe this year's team.
"Family"
