Troy Notebook: Deep Ball Causing Problems for Opponents

Troy has five passes of 50 yards or more this season, which ranks second in the NCAA.
The longest of the season was a 58-yard touchdown pass from Corey Robinson to Bryan Holmes against Arkansas State.
The Trojans had nine plays of 50 yards or longer last season.
Tight end contributing
Tight end Jim Teknipp hauled in a 29-yard pass in the first quarter in Troy's loss to Mississippi State. It was the first reception by a Trojan tight end since Teknipp caught a pass against Florida Atlantic on Nov. 19, 2011.
"It felt good. As a tight end in this system you don't get very many chances so you have to make the most of them," Teknipp said. "As long as the team wins, it doesn't matter to me how many catches I have."
Teknipp has four career receptions for 80 yards.
Thomas the go-to man for Troy offense
Wide receiver Eric Thomas is once again turning in a productive season for the Trojans. The senior has six touchdown receptions through four games this season, which is good enough for second in the NCAA.
Thomas is one touchdown reception shy of tying the Sun Belt Conference career touchdown reception record held by former Florida International receiver T.Y. Hilton (24).
Offense spreading the ball around
Troy quarterbacks have connected with 18 different receivers this season, which is the second most in the NCAA behind only UCLA.
Eric Thomas leads the pack with 17 catches followed closely by running back Brandon Burks who has 16.
Last season, Troy completed passes to 17 different receivers.
Trojans looking to reverse fortunes versus ACC
Troy is just 1-10 all time against the Atlantic Coast Conference with the lone win coming against Florida State in 1947.
This week, Troy and Duke square off for the first time.
Solomon scores
Troy kicker Jed Solomon scores his first career point when he converted the extra point after Troy's first quarter touchdown.
Solomon, a sophomore, took over the kickoff duties last season in the seventh game. He averaged 57.5 yards per kick and recorded 11 touchbacks.
