Trojans Return to Action at Azalea City Classic

MOBILE, Ala. – The Troy University cross country team gets back to racing this weekend at the Azalea City Classic, hosted by South Alabama on Saturday morning. The men's 8k race will begin at 7:30 a.m., while the women's 6k will begin at 8:15 a.m.
"After racing much shorter distances at the Trojan Invitational, the team is ready to go down to Mobile and run some of the longer distances," said cross country coach Jeff Jenkins. "They have been looking pretty good in practice lately and the week off has given everyone a chance to push the limits a little. I know we will be seeing a lot of the same competition that we saw at our home meet and I fully expect for us to be further ahead than what we were before."
11 teams will be competing this week, including two other Sun Belt Conference schools in South Alabama and Louisiana-Lafayette. Other teams competing include UAB, Tulane, Southeastern Louisiana, Alabama State, Millsaps, Mobile, New Orleans and William Carey.
"With so many freshmen, and travel squad limitations, I'll be experimenting a bit with a few different travel parties until we have a firm understanding of whom our top group is," Jenkins continued. "We are seven weeks from the Sun Belt Championships. I fully expect the individuals that will be racing this weekend to start racing fast and beating good people."
