Troy AD John Hartwell to Speak at 1A AD Institute

TROY, Ala. – Troy University Athletic Director John Hartwell has been invited to speak to aspiring athletic directors at the annual 1A Athletic Director's Institute next week in Dallas. The three-day conference is an invitation only event for athletic administrators who have aspirations of becoming an athletic director.

"Since his appointment last fall, John Hartwell has provided outstanding leadership for our athletics program," Troy University Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., said. "The invitation extended to him to present at the 1A Athletic Director's Institute is a credit to him and Troy University. In my opinion, he is among the best of the best in athletics administration. We are very proud of him."

Hartwell, SMU AD Rick Hart, Florida Atlantic AD Pat Chun and Miami (Ohio) AD David Sayler will speak to the participants about the search process involved in becoming an athletic director and what to expect in your first six months on the job.

"I am honored to be part of this panel with some of the most respected athletic directors in the country," Hartwell said. "I had the privilege of attending the Institute as a participant and it is rewarding to be on the other side of the table so that I can share my experiences. I am also looking forward to the presentations of my peers, as there are always opportunities to learn from the best in the business."

Among those joining Hartwell at the 1A Athletic Director's Institute will be Mike Alden (Missouri), Dave Hart (Tennessee), Jimmy Phillips (Northwestern), Eric Hyman (Texas A&M), Debbie Yow (North Carolina State) and Gene Smith (Ohio State).
