Volleyball Adds All-American Transfer

TROY, Ala. – Head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick and the Troy volleyball program announced the signing of transfer Marija Zelenovic on Tuesday. Zelenovic comes to Troy after playing the first two seasons of her career at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn.

While at Lee, the Novi Sad, Serbia, native was twice named an NAIA All-American and helped the Flames to two appearances in the NAIA Volleyball National Championships. She helped the perennial Top 25 program to a combined 64-14 record in two seasons and two Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Tournament championships.

A 6-foot-3 outside hitter, Zelenovic recorded 402 kills and hit .265 in 2012 as she helped lead Lee to a 30-11 overall record and a No.9 ranking in the final NAIA Coaches Top 25 Poll.

In addition to being an honorable mention selection to the NAIA All-American team, Zelenovic was also a first team All-SSAC selection as a sophomore and helped the Flames past the pool play round of the NAIA Volleyball National Championships and into the 12-team, single-elimination round.

As a freshman in 2011, Zelenovic recorded 347 kills and hit .330 while being named the SSAC Freshman of the Year as well as being selected to the All-SSAC first team.

In addition to the conference honors, Zelenovic was an honorable mention NAIA All-American selection as she helped Lee to a 34-3 record, a No.3 final ranking in the NAIA Coaches Top 25 Poll and an appearance in the semifinals at the NAIA Volleyball National Championships.

Zelenovic, who will enter Troy as a junior, becomes the sixth student-athlete to sign with the Trojans for the 2013 season.
