Women's Golf Adds Second Signee

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's golf program and head coach Matt Terry announced the signing of Fátima Fernández Cano on Monday, a native of Spain who will join the Trojans in the fall.
Cano, a native of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, has been heavily involved with competitive golf since 2004, and will join Becca Horner (Woodham, England) this fall as Troy's second signee.
“We're excited to add her to our signing class with Becca Horner,” Terry said. “She's a talented young lady with a lot of tournament experience. We're looking forward to getting started with all the new players in the fall.”
Cano has been a member of the Galician Team since 2005, and just recently joined the Spanish Team in 2012. Since 2004, Cano has picked up 15 wins in the Galicia Championships, and multiple other quality finishes in the Madrid and Spanish Championships.
In 2004, at just age nine, Cano finished second in the under-10 Galicia Championships, and backed that up a year later with a first place result in the same event. From 2004 through 2011, she finished no lower than second in any championship. In 2012 she picked up another win in the mixed doubles championship, before carding finishes of 14th, 14th, and 10th in the Madrid and Spanish Championships.
Cano continued her run of wins in the Galician Championships this year with a 73-76-149 two-round total for a first place finish, before finishing 17th at the Valencia Championships with a 74-71-76-76-297. She just recently wrapped up play at the Ocho Golf Ladies Open of Galicia with a tie for 36th after shooting 72-73-75 over the three rounds for a 220 total.
