Volleyball Releases 2013 Schedule

TROY, Ala. – The Troy volleyball program and head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick announced the Trojans' 2013 schedule on Friday. This fall will mark the Trojans' first season of competition at Trojan Arena.

“We set forward a very aggressive schedule,” Kirkpatrick said. “We want to keep improving and to do that you have to play teams of the caliber we have on the schedule.”

Troy's schedule includes non-conference matches against six “power” conference teams including Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Connecticut, Georgia Tech and St. John's.

The schedule includes 11 home matches inside Trojan Arena, starting with a Labor Day matinee against Georgia Southern, the defending Southern Conference champion, on September 2 at 2 p.m.

The match against the Eagles, an incoming Sun Belt member in 2014, will be the first ever volleyball match inside Trojan Arena. It also marks one of seven for Troy against teams that won 20 matches in 2012.

The Trojans' schedule features an 18-game, double round robin, Sun Belt slate that allows Troy fans to see every team in the league, including incoming members Georgia State, Texas State and UT Arlington.

In addition to seeing all Sun Belt opponents during the regular season, fans at Trojan Arena can catch postseason action as the Trojans host the 2013 Sun Belt Volleyball Championships at Trojan Arena.

“We are looking forward to competing and seeing how we do,” Kirkpatrick said. “Our goal is to challenge players to be the best student-athletes they can be, and this schedule does that.”

The Trojans are coming off of a 2012 campaign that saw them finish second in the Sun Belt with a 21-12 overall record and a 10-5 league mark, a school record for conference wins.

Troy will challenge itself with its 2013 schedule, as the average RPI of the Trojans' 2013 opponents is 20 spots higher than that of the opponents on its 2012 schedule.
