TROY, Ala. – Troy University's Department of Athletics' Student-Athlete Graduation Banquet, held annually to recognize graduating student-athletes, was held Tuesday in the Trojan Center Ballroom.
The banquet, now in its sixth year, honors student-athletes who graduated in December of 2012, and will graduate in May or July of 2013.
Student-athletes' parents took part in a nice dinner as well as the presentation of “T” plaques and Sun Belt medallions to be worn at graduation. There were also presentations made in the area of academics, leadership, and strength and conditioning. Troy's Director of Athletics John Hartwell, in conjunction with Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., presented the “T” plaques to students.
The Troy men's and women's golf teams earned the Fred B. Davis award, given annually to the team with the highest grade point average. This year's honor marks the third consecutive season the men have picked up the award, while the women claimed their second straight. The Clements award, which recognizes outstanding academic achievement by a graduating male student-athlete, was presented to men's golfer Alex Barnes. The Sorrell award was presented to volleyball player Mailande Parker for outstanding academic achievement by a graduating female student-athlete.
Football's Kanorris Davis was awarded the “Strength of Character” award for outstanding leadership, integrity and character. The NSCA Collegiate All-American (strength and conditioning) awards were presented to women's basketball student-athlete Sarah McAppion and men's basketball student-athlete Justin Wright.
