TROY, Ala. – Troy University shortstop Tyler Vaughn was selected to the Capital One Academic All-District Team for the second straight year, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Friday.
The Capital One Academic All-District Teams have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Vaughn will now be included on the ballot for the Capital One Academic All-America Team.
Vaughn, a junior from Murphy, N.C., has a 3.92 grade-point-average in chemistry. He currently ranks second in the NCAA with 57 runs scored this year, is the ninth toughest player in the country to strikeout and ranks 36th nationally with 16 doubles.
Vaughn heads into Troy's weekend series against FIU batting at a .352 clip with a triple and 20 RBIs to go along with his 57 runs scored and 16 doubles. He has only struck out nine times in 182 at-bats and has stolen eight bases in nine attempts.
To be eligible for academic all-district teams, student-athletes must be starters or important reserves with at least 3.30 cumulative grade point averages. Candidates also must complete at least one full academic year at the nominating institution and be at least sophomores athletically.
Vaughn will be one of just five infielders representing District IV on the All-America ballot; District IV is comprised of schools in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
Vaughn has reached base safely in 41 of Troy's 44 games this season and leads the Trojans with 22 multi-hit games. He has scored in all but seven of Troy's games and has scored multiple runs 15 different times.
