TROY, Ala. – The 2013 Sun Belt Conference champion Troy baseball team reappeared in the national polls this week after winning its series at South Alabama last weekend to share the league crown with the Jaguars.
Troy is ranked No. 21 by Collegiate Baseball, No. 22 by Perfect Game, No. 23 by Baseball America and No. 30 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). The Trojans also received the 30th most points in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Top 25 Poll.
The Trojans made their first appearance in the national polls back on May 6 when Collegiate Baseball tabbed Troy as the No. 25 team in the country. Troy reached as high as No. 18 in the polls during the 2011 season.
The Sun Belt title is Troy's second in the last three years and came after the Trojans finished 12-3 over its final five Sun Belt series of the year. Troy won 15 of its last 20 games to close out the regular season and was one of just two Sun Belt schools to not be swept in a league series (Florida Atlantic).
Troy opens play in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Wednesday against eighth-seeded Arkansas State. The Trojans earned the top seed over South Alabama due to the Sun Belt Conference tiebreakers.
