TROY, Ala. – The Troy volleyball program and head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick announced the signing of three student-athletes on Thursday that will join the Trojans in the fall.
Troy adds to its 2013 signing class Cassie Hendricks, Katie Feemster and Bruna Souza. They join Kiah Cheatham and Symone Shaw who signed with the Trojans earlier this year.
“We couldn't be more excited to add these young ladies to our program,” Kirkpatrick said. “They each bring skills that will help us go forward. Katie and Cassie add great skill as well as good height, while Bruna is a very competent setter and we expect her to compete right away.
“Although we are excited about these signees, we still have the potential to add a few more in hopes of being able to compete for a conference title.”
Cassie Hendricks – 6'3” – OH/RS – Scottsdale, Ariz. (Pinnacle HS)
Hendricks earned Arizona Division I All-State second team honors last season as she led Pinnacle High School to the AIAI Division I state playoffs for the second straight season.
Hendricks record 406 kills for the Pioneers with a 4.6 kills per set average. Hendricks also posted 330 digs and 59 total blocks.
She played club volleyball for Arizona Sky.
Katie Feemster – 6'3” – MH – Tucson, Ariz. (Central Arizona)
Feemster comes to Troy as a junior after spending her sophomore season at Central Arizona College in 2012. Feemster led the Vaqueras to a 17-8 record in just the second year of the program's existence.
She posted 1.23 blocks per set, the 13th best average in the NJCAA, while also hitting .385 with 251 kills and 2.9 kills per set while earning first team all-conference.
Feemster was a team captain at Central Arizona and was selected Sports and Fitness Athlete of the Year.
During her high school career at Tanque Verde High School, Feemster earned Arizona Daily Star All-Southern Arizona honorable mention honors.
Bruna Souza – 5'10” – S – Curitiba, Brazil
Souza will come to Troy as a freshman and was recently named the best setter in her hometown of Curitiba, Brazil, a city with a population over 1.7 million people. Curitiba is also the hometown of Troy assistant coach Ligia Zobolli.
Troy is coming off of a 21-12 season in 2012 that saw Troy finish second in the Sun Belt standings and advanced to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Championships, earning the first Sun Belt Tournament victory in school history.
Troy will host the 2013 Sun Belt Championships at Trojan Arena as the upcoming season marks the teams first in the newly constructed facility.
