OXFORD, Miss. – The Troy women's golf team shot a 24-over par, 312, to open play at the M&F Bank Rebel Intercollegiate on Friday at the Ole Miss Golf Course.
Of the 18 teams in the highly-talented field, just one finished at under-par as Troy carded a combined five birdies to finish day one in 16th; the Trojans' 2-5 players finished one stroke off each other ranging from six to nine-over.
Sofia Bjorkman turned in Troy's low round, with a three-over par, 75. The senior began play on the 10th and made the turn at two-over, but dropped three bogeys and two birdies to finish the round tied for 33rd at 75.
Brooke Spinks carded two of the team's five birdies, but dropped six bogeys and one double bogey to finish the day tied for 65th at six-over, 78.
Sara Fennvik had somewhat of a quiet round with 13 of her 18 holes at even-par, but dropped three bogeys (2nd, 10th, 12th) and two double bogeys (9th, 16th) to finish the round at seven-over, 79, tied for 73rd.
Langley Vannoy dropped an eight-over, 80, to finish tied for 78th, while Sydney Conrad shot a nine-over, 81, to finish the day tied for 81st.
No. 49 Coastal Carolina carded a team score four-under, 284, to lead the field of 18, while Baylor finished the day tied for second with a one-over, 289.
Baylor's Hayley Davis, ranked No. 23 in the nation, carded four birdies over her final seven holes to finish tied for first with East Tennessee State's Chloe Garner and Madison Opfer of Tulane.
Saturday's second round will begin with the first tee times at 9:51 a.m. Live stats will be available through www.GolfStat.com.
