DENTON, Texas – The Troy women's tennis team closes the regular season this weekend with two Sun Belt matches as the Trojans look to extend their 12-match winning streak.
Troy (16-4) takes the nation's third longest winning streak with it into matches against No.74 North Texas and Middle Tennessee. The Trojans take on North Texas at 3 p.m. on Friday before playing Middle Tennessee on a neutral court at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The Trojans are coming off of a 7-0 win over Alabama State on Senior Day in Troy on Tuesday, while the Mean Green and Blue Raiders are also coming off of midweek victories.
Troy has not lost since mid-February in a 4-3 decision at UAB, and a big part of the success has been doubles play. During its current streak, Troy is 28-2 in doubles matches. Also, the Trojans feature an ITA nationally-ranked doubles team in No.90 Anja Cosovic and Candela Munoz Giron.
In singles play, senior Karoline Grymel has led the way, posting a 12-8 mark at first singles. Grymel has won her last 10 matches. Munoz Giron is also on a streak, having won her last nine matches.
North Texas (12-5), the reigning Sun Belt champion, comes in ranked 74th in the nation by the ITA. The Mean Green are coming off of a 7-0 win over Tyler Junior College, the top-ranked junior college in the nation.
Middle Tennessee (10-9) comes in after a midweek, 4-3, win over Samford. The Blue have won three of their last four, including two Sun Belt matches, with the lone loss coming to No.38 Tulane.
Following this weekend's play, the Trojans move to the Sun Belt Championships, which begin on Thursday, April 18, in Lafayette, La. Seedings for the tournament are expected to be announced on Monday.
