HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The Troy women's basketball team will look to avenge a loss from just six days prior when the Trojans take on South Alabama on Friday in the first round of the Sun Belt Championships.
The 10th-seeded Trojans and 7th-seeded Lady Jags will tip off at 2:00 p.m. at the Hot Springs Convention Center on the Convention Center court. The winner will advance to Saturday's quarterfinals to face West Division winner, and 2nd-seeded UALR.
Live stats and free live video will be available through SunBeltSports.org. Fans in Troy can hear the game on WTBF 94.7 FM.
Troy (6-23, 3-17) is very familiar with South Alabama, having just hosted the Lady Jags at Trojan Arena last Saturday. South Alabama won that game 71-70 on a last second put back after Troy led most of the game.
All-Sun Belt selection Joanna Harden led the Trojans with 25 points and is the sixth leading scorer in the conference at 15.6 points per game. Harden has scored at least 20 points in five of her last seven games and is averaging 18.6 per game in Sun Belt play.
The Trojans enter the Sun Belt Championships as the highest scoring team in the conference, averaging 71.1 points per game. The Trojans are also the top rebounding team in the league at 40.3 boards per game.
South Alabama (17-12, 10-10) on the other hand gives up just 55.7 points per game, the second best mark in the Sun Belt. The Jags are led individually by Mary Nixon, who averages 11.2 points per game, but she was scoreless in Troy last weekend.
Troy and South Alabama have met once in the Sun Belt Championships, with South Alabama winning a 2009 quarterfinal in Hot Springs. Troy is 2-7 all-time in Sun Belt Championship play, but 0-4 in Hot Springs.
Troy is 13-19 all-time against South Alabama, including two losses this season as Troy also fell on the road in Mobile in early February.
