HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The Troy men's basketball team (11-20, 6-14) kicks off the Sun Belt Championships on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. against Florida Atlantic (13-18, 9-11) in Summit Arena in Hot Springs, Ark.
Troy enters the Sun Belt Championships as the No.10 seed after finishing the conference season 6-14. The Trojans are looking to snap a five-game skid, after falling to Middle Tennessee and South Alabama to close out the regular season last weekend.
The Trojans are led by senior Emil Jones. Jones is one of two Trojans to average double-figures this season, coming in at 11.3 points per game, and is second on the team in rebounding. Hunter Williams is the only other Trojan averaging double-figures, scoring 10.3 points per game in his first season with the team.
Florida Atlantic is led by first-team All-Sun Belt selection Greg Gantt. Gantt leads the conference in scoring at 21.2 points per game and also averages 4.2 rebounds per contest. Second-team All-Sun Belt selection Stefan Moody is averaging 15.2 points and 4.3 boards per game.
Troy was defeated in both meetings with Florida Atlantic this season, losing 61-54 at home and 80-59 on the road. The Trojans are 19-12 all-time against the Owls.
The winner moves on to face second-seeded Arkansas State on Saturday night in the quarterfinals. Troy is 4-7 all-time in the Sun Belt Championships, but has lost three straight.
