Bulldog Kickoff Classic Information
TROY, Ala. – The Troy softball teams will hit the road to open up the 2013 season, as the Trojans travel to Starkville, Miss. to participate in the Bulldog Kickoff Classic at the Mississippi State Softball Complex.
The Trojans will face four teams in two days and open the tournament on Friday morning at 10 a.m. against future Sun Belt member Georgia State. Troy holds a 27-10 record all-time against the Panthers, while Georgia State returns eight starters from it's 2012 squad.
Troy finishes the first day of action by facing off against the host Mississippi State Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. Friday night. The Trojans are looking to pick up their first win in program history against the Bulldogs, as Mississippi State holds a 6-0 record all-time against Troy.
On Saturday, Troy wraps up play with back-to-back games against SIU-Edwardsville at 11:00 a.m. and Tennessee State at 1:00 p.m. This marks the first time SIU-Edwardsville and Troy have meet in softball, while the Trojans are a perfect 14-0 against Tennessee State.
Troy returns four starters from the 2012 team that posted a 31-24 record. The Trojans return the sophomore trio of Jaycee Affeldt, Ashley Rainey and Sarah Thomas. Last season, the three pitchers combined to pick up 29 of Troy's 31 wins.
Over the last four seasons, the Trojans have a combined record of 20-3 during the opening weekend of play. Last season, Troy started out the year 5-0 and won the Southeastern Lion Classic in Hammond, La.
Troy returns 11 letter winners from last year's team and will add 10 newcomers to the mix in 2013.
The Trojans open their 2013 home schedule as they host the Troy Subway Invitational, Friday, February 15 through Sunday, February 17.
