Trojans Travel to West Division Leader

JONESBORO, Ark. – The Troy women's basketball team will face a tough test on Saturday as it travels to take on Sun Belt West Division leader Arkansas State. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at the Convocation Center.

Troy (6-20, 3-14) comes into the contest after a 63-59 loss at Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday. The Trojans came out flat and allowed the Cajuns to build a 14-point halftime lead. Troy battled back and was within one possession in the final minute, but couldn't overcome the tough start.

Joanna Harden led the Trojans with 25 points while Sarah McAppion had 15 points and 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.

Harden leads the Trojans in scoring at 15.2 points per game, the fifth best average in the Sun Belt. She leads a Troy offense that averages 72.3 points per game, the best mark in the Sun Belt.

Arkansas State (14-12, 11-6) is tied atop the Sun Belt West Division with UALR and comes in well rested, having last play on Saturday at ULM. The Red Wolves won that game, 77-58.

ASU is led by Jan Morrill who is averaging 15.1 points per game. The Red Wolves second leading scorer, Ashley Olvera, played her sophomore season for Troy head coach Chanda Rigby at Pensacola State.

Arkansas State defeated Troy earlier this season at Trojan Arena, 87-74. Ashley Beverly-Kelley led Troy is that game with 21 points while Jalen O'Bannon led ASU with 23.

Troy is 3-7 all-time against Arkansas State, including a 1-2 mark in Jonesboro.
