Game Notes
TROY, Ala. – The Troy softball team returns to the road and travels to the Phyllis Rafter Memorial Tournament to play three games starting on Saturday at Georgia State's Heck Softball Complex.
The 11-team tournament has been altered due to the forecast of heavy rains in the Atlanta area on Friday. Troy (4-5) was originally scheduled to play five games at the Phyllis Rafter Memorial, but all of Friday's games were cancelled due to heavy rain in the Atlanta area.
Troy will now play three games at the tournament, opening play against North Carolina State (6-4) at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Trojans conclude the tournament on Sunday by facing Akron (4-4) at 10 a.m. and Georgia State (5-4) at 4 p.m.
Rachel Rigney (3-1, 1.85 ERA) leads the Trojans in the circle and earned all-tournament honors, as the freshman picked up both of
Troy's win at last weekend's Troy Subway Invitational. Rigney has pitched 34 innings through the first two weekends of play, which leads the Sun Belt.
Troy is led at the plate by senior infielder Caitlin Ortiz, who leads the team with a .389 batting average. Senior catcher Hannah Renn leads the club with two home runs, while freshman designated player Brittany Russ joined Rigney on last weekend's all-tournament team by belting her first career home run and driving in three runs.
