LAFAYETTE, La. – The Troy women's basketball team will travel to Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday night looking to build on Saturday's convincing home win and continue its recent success. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Earl K. Long Gym.
Live stats will be available through RaginCajuns.com while live video will be available through TroyTrojans.com. Fans can also hear the game on WTBF 94.7 FM in Troy.
Troy (6-19, 3-13) is coming off of an 86-69 win over North Texas at home on Saturday. The Trojans forced a season-high 30 North Texas turnovers and scored 40 points off of those miscues to go along with 20 fastbreak points.
Saturday's win, combined with a win over Sun Belt leader Middle Tennessee and a home victory over Louisiana-Lafayette, has the Trojans at 3-2 in February, that after going 0-8 in January.
The Trojans still boast the top scoring average in the Sun Belt at 72.8 points per game, a mark that ranks 19th in the nation. However, it has been the Trojans' defense that has fueled their recent run.
After entering February giving up over 82.0 points per game, the Trojans have held four of their five opponents to 70 points or less this month, and that includes one overtime game.
Troy will look to win consecutive games for the first time in two years, and consecutive road games for the first time in nearly four years, against a Louisiana-Lafayette team that recently snapped its own losing streak.
Louisiana-Lafayette (8-17, 2-14) defeated Florida Atlantic at home on Saturday, 72-57, snapping the Ragin' Cajuns 11-game losing streak that dated back to December.
The Trojans and Cajuns met just over two weeks ago at Trojan Arena, with Troy winning that game 68-61. At the time, the 61 points allowed were the fewest by the Trojans.
Troy trailed 61-59 with 2:45 to go, but held the Cajuns scoreless for the remainder of the game and finished on a 9-0 run to snap a 10-game losing streak and spark the current stretch of success.
Troy is 6-5 all-time against Louisiana-Lafayette and has won the last two meetings. The Trojans have won six of the last eight in the series, but they're just 1-4 all-time in Lafayette.
