TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's basketball team will look to rebound from its worst offensive effort of the season as the Trojans host North Texas on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Trojan Arena.
The contest marks Troy's annual Play4Kay game to raise breast cancer awareness. The game will also air via the Sun Belt Network on CSS/CST and ESPN3. Live stats and live video will also be available on TroyTrojans.com.
Troy (5-19, 2-13) is coming off of 56-39 loss at home to FIU on Thursday. Despite allowing a season0low 56 points, the story was Troy's cold start as the Trojans made just six field goals in the first half, with 14 turnovers and trailed 37-14 at the break.
The loss came on the heels of arguably one of the biggest wins in program history, a 74-70 overtime victory at Middle Tennessee on Sunday. The win was the first against the Blue Raiders in 17 tries for the Trojans.
Joanna Harden led Troy in scoring against FIU and at Middle Tennessee and is the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week. Harden had 27 against the Blue Raiders and became the first player in Troy history to be named Sun Belt Player of the Week.
Harden (14.4 ppg) leads a Troy offense that averages 72.3 points per game, the best in the Sun Belt, despite the offensive struggles on Thursday night. Troy is also the Sun Belt's top rebounding team at 41.0 boards per game, despite having no regular rotation players over 6-foot tall.
North Texas (10-15, 9-7) comes it in third place in the Sun Belt West Division, but just a game out of first place. The Mean Green won on Thursday at ULM, 76-75.
A pair of freshman, Alexis Hyder and Loryn Goodwin, lead the Mean Green in scoring at 13.6 and 13.5 points per game, respectively. The two combined for 53 points at ULM.
Troy and North Texas met earlier this season, with North Texas winning that game 87-71 in Denton. Troy fell victim to another slow start in that one, scoring just one point over the first six minutes of the game.
Troy is 3-10 all-time against North Texas, including a 2-2 mark at Troy. The Mean Green have won four straight in the series, dating back to a 86-79 Troy win at home in 2009-10.
