Trojans Travel to Alabama on Friday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Troy women's basketball team will play its second straight road game against an SEC opponent on Friday when the Trojans travel to take on Alabama. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Foster Auditorium on Alabama's campus.

Troy (4-5) is coming off of a 103-64 loss at No. 3/3 Tennessee last Saturday in a game that marked the first of four straight on the road for the Trojans.Â
Troy forced the Lady Vols into 28 turnovers in that game, the most by Tennessee this season. Troy forces an average of 24.4 turnover per game, tops in the Sun Belt, and has a +4.11 turnover margin, also tops in the Sun Belt.
Offensively against Tennessee, Ashley Beverly-Kelley led the way with 22 points while Joanna Harden added 14. Beverly-Kelley is averaging 20.5 points per game against the SEC this season as she scored 19 in Troy's home loss to Florida.
Harden is averaging 25.2 points per game on the season, the sixth best mark in the NCAA and the best in the Sun Belt. The senior guard has scored 20-plus in six of Troy's nine games and has posted double-figures in all nine.
As a team, the Trojans are averaging 82.9 points per game, tops in the Sun Belt and 23rd in the nation. Troy also leads the Sun Belt in 3-pointers (6.8/g) and rebounding (46.2 rpg).
Alabama (5-5) is coming off of a 75-62 win over Jacksonville at home on Tuesday. Friday's game against Troy will mark the final of four straight at home for the Crimson Tide who have defeated Houston and lost to UT Martin on the homestand.
Alabama is led in scoring by Shafontaye Myers (13.1 ppg) who is second in the SEC in 3-point shooting (3.0/g, 47.6 percent). Alabama is in its first season under head coach Kristy Curry who took Purdue to the NCAA Final Four in 2000-01.
Friday's game at Alabama will be the sixth against the SEC in Chanda Rigby's two seasons at Troy, including a home game against the Crimson Tide last season. Alabama walked away from Trojan Arena with an 80-71 win in that contest after Troy went scoreless for three minutes down the stretch and Alabama used an 8-0 run to take control.
Troy is 1-14 all-time against Alabama and has lost 13 straight, dating back to a road win in 1978-79. The Trojans have lost 17 straight against the SEC, dating back to Nov. 18, 1997 and a 72-69 win over Mississippi State at home.Â
