Courtney Cohen Named Academic All-American

Capital One Academic All-America Division I Volleyball Team

TROY, Ala. – Troy volleyball's Courtney Cohen has been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Division I volleyball third team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

Cohen, a biomedical sciences major with a 3.96 cumulative GPA, is scheduled to graduate in May 2014. She has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team three times in her career and is now the first person in Troy volleyball history to earn Academic All-America honors.

The Woodstock, Ga., native finished her playing career just three weeks ago as she helped Troy to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Championships after an upset of No. 1 seed WKU in quarterfinals.

A four-year starting libero, Cohen recorded 2,077 career digs and a 4.38 digs/set average, both Troy all-time records. Cohen is one of just six players in Sun Belt history to record 2,000 career digs and won Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week honors four times in her career, tying the Troy record for weekly conference awards.

In Cohen's four-year career, the Trojans advanced to the Sun Belt Championships three times, including two semifinal appearances. In the program's five Sun Belt seasons prior, the Trojans advanced to one tournament and lost their only match.

Cohen becomes the 12th student-athlete, and just the second female student-athlete, in Troy history to earn Academic All-America. She is just the second selection since 2007, joining Troy baseball's Tyler Vaughn who was a first-team selection last year.
