Trojans Looking for Record Crowd on Thursday Night

TROY, Ala. – The Troy volleyball team will be looking for a large home crowd on Thursday night as the Trojans open the Sun Belt Championships against WKU at Trojan Arena.
First serve is set for 7:30 p.m. Students from all Sun Belt schools can attend for FREE. Full tournament passes for adults are $20 while single-day passes are $10. For children age 12 and under, tournament passes are $10 and single-day passes are $5.
Troy (12-20, 7-11), the tournament's No. 8 seed, will have the home crowd behind it as the Trojans look to knock off WKU (27-5, 17-1), the tournament's No. 1 seed. WKU, the winner of the last two Sun Belt Championships, enters having won 11 straight matches.
The winner of Thursday's quarterfinal will meet the winner of No.4 UT Arlington and No. 5 South Alabama in Friday's semifinal match.
Troy enters having won three of its last four matches. The Trojans won their first Sun Belt Championships match last season, defeating Louisiana-Lafayette in the tournament's quarterfinals before falling to North Texas in the semifinals.Â
The Trojans are led offensively by Blair Winston and Marija Zelenovic who are averaging 3.54 and 3.49 kills/set in Sun Belt play, respectively. Alexandra Alexander is averaging 10.67 assists/set in league play, the third best mark in the league.
Defensively, Courtney Cohen leads the Trojans with a 4.22 digs/set average and 523 total digs. Cohen has recorded 500-plus digs in three straight seasons and is one of six players all-time in the Sun Belt to surpass 2,000 career digs.
WKU, the Sun Belt's regular season champion, leads the league in attack percentage and kills. The Lady Toppers have three hitters with attack percentages over .400 while Melanie Stutsman leads the league with an 11.59 assists/set average.
A full tournament bracket, as well as live stats and live video for all matches can be found at SunBeltSports.org. The tournament begins at 12 p.m. on Thursday and the Trojans' match will be the fourth of the day.
