Cano Tied for Third Following Opening Day of Blue Raider Invitational; Trojans in Seventh

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Freshman Fátima Fernández Cano shot a 1-over 145 on the opening day of the Blue Raider Invitational on Monday to lead the Troy women's golf team. The Trojans sit in seventh place as a team, but are within striking distance of the leaders.
Cano shot a 1-over 73 in the opening round at the Old Fort Golf Club and fired even par in the afternoon session. The native of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, is just two shots out of second and six strokes back of individual leader Anna Appert Lund from Morehead State.
The Trojans shot a 306 in the opening round with three of the five players shootings rounds in the 70s, but rebounded with a strong second round as all five players shot in the 70s. The Trojans fired a 299 in the second round, its second-best round of the young season.
Langley Vannoy is just one stroke back of another top 10 finish as she sits in a tie for 12th place after carding a 5-over-par 149 in Monday's two rounds. Vannoy had the second best day on the par 4 holes in the tournament as she carded a 1-under.
Taylor McGraw shot matching 77s and is tied for 40th place. Becca Horner bounced back from an 82 in the opening round to shoot a 75 the second time through the course and is tied for 53rd. Brooke Spinks is tied for 71st and Sydney Conrad, who is compositing as an individual, is tied for 59th.
Southern Illinois (593) holds a three-stroke lead over Jacksonville State (596) and Lamar for the team title.
The third and final round of the Blue Raider Invitational will get underway Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
