JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Troy women's golf team finished in sixth place at the rain-shorted JU Classic. Langley Vannoy and Becca Horner both shot a 5-over-par 149 to pace the Trojans and finish in a tie for eighth. Heavy rain made the course at the Marsh Landing Country Club unplayable for Tuesday's final round.
Vannoy shot even par in the opening round before slipping to a 5-over-par 77 in the second round, while Horner opened with a 1-over-par 73 and finished with a four-over-par 76 over the final 18 holes. Horner finished 1-under on the par 3 holes on the opening day -- the second best tally in the field -- while Vannoy carded five birdies on the day – the third most in the field.
College of Charleston has a commanding 12 stroke lead over the field. North Florida is in second place, followed by Stetson, Daytona State, Wofford and Troy. Florida Atlantic's Jacquellina Shelly leads the individual competition after shooting a 1-under-par 143.
Taylor McGraw turned in Troy's best second-round scorecard after shooting a 2-over-par 74. She is tied for 30th place with teammate Fátima Fernández Cano at 11-over-par 155. Brooke Spinks rounds out the field for the Trojans in a tie for 45th after shooting a 159 on Monday.
