NEW ORLEANS, La. – Troy volleyball junior outside hitter Marija Zelenovic and senior setter Alexandra Alexander each earned weekly awards from the Sun Belt Conference on Monday. Zelenovic was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Alexander was named the Setter of the Week.
The pair helped Troy (9-12, 4-3) to two wins on the weekend as the Trojans defeated Georgia State and ULM at Trojan Arena to move their Sun Belt record above .500.
Alexander and Zelenovic were a big part of a Troy offense that posted a season-best .282 attack percentage on Friday against Georgia State, only to top the mark on Sunday with a new season-best mark of .296 against ULM.
Zelenovic averaged 4.43 kills/set on the weekend while hitting .415 with 31 kills and just four attack errors in seven sets of play. The junior outside hitter has posted double-digit kills in 16 of 21 matches, including in six of seven Sun Belt matches.
Alexander recorded 83 assists on the weekend, averaging 11.86 assists/set. The senior setter notched her 12th and 13th double-doubles of the year as she recorded 13 digs and 45 assists in Fridays win over Georgia State and 12 digs and 38 assists in Sunday's win over ULM.Â
The award is the first of the career for both Zelenovic and Alexander. Troy has now won four weekly honors in 2013 as Courtney Cohen was named Defensive Player of the Week in early September and Kiah Cheatham was named Freshman of the Week one week later.
